The dispensers are in line with the beverage giant’s global goal of achieving 25 percent reusable packaging by 2030.
Today, the need for recyclable and reusable packaging is becoming more apparent. In recent years, Coca-Cola Japan has been trying to make their products more environmentally friendly, such as removing plastic labels from beverages and reducing the amount of electricity needed to run vending machines.
Their latest campaign comes against the backdrop of The Coca-Cola Company’s announcement to make 25% of its global packaging reusable by 2030.Reusable packaging includes returnable glass bottles, refillable PET bottles or products sold through traditional fountains or Coca-Cola.Coke dispenser.
To help make this happen, Coca-Cola Japan has been working on a project called Bon Aqua Water Bar.Bon Aqua Water Bar is a self-service water dispenser that provides users with five different types of water – cold, ambient, hot and carbonated (strong and weak).
Users can fill any bottle with purified water from the machine for 60 yen ($0.52) a time. For those who don’t have a drink bottle on hand, the paper cups cost 70 yen ($0.61) and come in two sizes, medium (240ml [8.1oz] or large (430ml)).
A dedicated 380ml Bon Aqua drink bottle is also available for 260 yen (including the water inside), the only bottle available if you want to get carbonated water from the machine.
The Coca-Cola Company hopes the Bon Aqua water bar will make drinking pure water affordable for consumers without worrying about plastic pollution. The water bar was piloted at Universal Studios Japan last December and is currently being tested at Tiger Corporation in Osaka.
Fingers crossed project helps Coca-Cola move closer to its goal of reducing plastic pollution. If not, they can always use the help of a Titan or two to get people to recycle.
